It was while I was an assistant bookkeeper, in a local credit union, that I began working in marketing. I designed the cover for the annual meeting booklet, as well as the 4th of July parade float along with a diversity of flyers for other credit union offers and events. I found I really enjoyed marketing and the opportunity to release more of my creative energy made the whole experience even more fantastic.
At one of my husband's duty stations, it was too far a commute for me to go to work so I decided to try and sell my paintings and wood burnings at local art and craft shows. These artistic creations had originally been done in the past as gifts for friends and family but now I decided to see if others would like my work enough to actually buy from me. I nearly sold out at my first show. I knew then that I could bring in additional income and still remain at home - only "working" on the weekends when shows were scheduled near where we were stationed. Both of our children were high school age by this time and they enjoyed assisting me at these shows and looked forward to them each season. Being a military wife taught me how to adapt and find the best in every station and situation. Doing these art and craft shows proved that I could be in business for myself. I decided right then that one day I would open my own business through which I would help other entrepreneurs become successful.
My business experience began to blossom after my father went into the field of real estate; first as a licensed realtor and then a few years later as a broker. Real estate was quite intriguing to me. When my husband retired from the military, I too became involved with the real estate community working for a local real estate company as the office manager. It was here that my coaching truly began by helping new agents define their target market, gain confidence, visibility, and name recognition in their field as well as their community. I created ads, flyers, listing booklets and other marketing pieces for these wonderful agents. The more I did, the more I enjoyed it.
